People and Research

I am interested in understanding how situational factors that surround an achievement setting—the goal(s) we pursue, the presence of coactors or competitors, task complexity, our perceived status — can shape thought content and information processing, and eventually influence cognitive performance. Particularly interesting to me is the study of cognitive mechanisms that underlie such phenomena and can account for non-optimal decision making or sub-optimal performance.

My post-doc project in the Trope lab focuses on investigating how individuals coordinate and articulate the pursuit of multiple (and often conflicting) achievement goals. Building on Construal-Level Theory, I explore the idea that successful pursuit of multiple achievement goals might depend on individuals’ ability to coherently organize them within a hierarchical structure during the achievement process.
